It’s safe to say that we could all use some time to take a deep breath, relax and enjoy the Michigan summer while it’s still here. There are few summer activities as relaxing and rewarding as fishing. The calm of the water, the warmth of the summer air and the thrill of reeling in a big one are just some of the reasons to go fishing.. So if you’re looking for a peaceful spot to enjoy the weather, here are five fishing spots we’d recommend.

Kensington Lake

One of the more popular fishing spots in Southeast Michigan, Kensington Lake is a beautiful and plentiful spot to cast a line. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to catch bass, bluegill, northern pike, black crappie, yellow perch and more. Be sure to mind where you are fishing as there is no fishing permitted on Kingfisher Lagoon or at posted areas of Wildwing Lake.

Heatwave Fishing Charters

If you’re looking for a personal Walleye and Muskie fishing trip, Heatwave Fishing Charters has exactly what you’re looking for. You can enjoy a boat ride around Lake St. Clair catching some of the biggest and best fish the lake has to offer. For updates and pictures of their latest catches, be sure to follow Heatwave on Facebook.

Milliken State Park and Harbor

Described on the website as a 31-acre green oasis in the midst of downtown Detroit, Milliken State Park and Harbor has become a popular place to fish since it opened to the public in 2004. The RiverWalk passes through the park along the Detroit River with numerous fishing platforms for you to enjoy. Be sure to see all of the great events the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy has coming up this summer on their website.

Dingell Park

Channeling pike, walleye, steelhead and more, Dingell Park in Ecorse is a small haven for fishermen. The small park off the Detroit River is the perfect place to unwind on a warm summer night. You can check out more events taking place at Dingell Park over on their Parks and Recreation page.

Elizabeth Park

Trenton’s Elizabeth Park features one of the best shoreline fishing spots with over 1,300 feet of riverwalk access. The park gives visitors the opportunity to catch walleye, perch and rock bass from the Detroit River. If you want to show off your fishing talent, be sure to check out their FLW tournament taking place on August 24. More information can be found on their events calendar.
